Bill Murray will definitely be in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, finally breaking his silence on his involvement in the upcoming sequel. Annie Potts is back as the perpetually annoyed secretary, Janine Melnitz, and Sigourney Weaver is returning as the paranormal's favorite host body, Dana Barrett.
Rick Moranis, whose zany antics were a hallmark of the first two films, is not returning, since he retired from acting well over a decade ago. But Murray was the wild card. The actor previously played the sardonic supernatural investigator in the first film in the franchise, 1984's Ghostbusters, and its 1989 sequel, Ghostbusters II.
You don't have to wonder anymore. "That's the deal", said Murray.
Per VF, each surviving actor from the original quartet "has a meaningful role in the movie, but they won't be the central heroes this time".

Murray insists it is the loss of Spengler that drives the entire plot of the third film, and that the movie is a fitting tribute to his late co-star. "The script is good", he explained. It's got lots of emotion in it. "I'm really honoured to get a chance to tell one back to him from the world he brought to life", he shared during an interview with an entertainment magazine. Aykroyd has also hinted that the story will pay homage to Ramis and Egon Spengler in a big way, and Murray agrees, telling Vanity Fair the character's passing will be acknowledged in Afterlife and play a big part in the story.
The Stripes star said: 'Well, we are a man down, ' in reference to Ramis, who was also a director in his own right, of popular Bill Murray movies such as Caddyshack and Groundhog Day.
