The Tigers defeated third-ranked Duke, 79-72, at home Tuesday night to deliver one heck of a follow-up to Saturday's win against North Carolina.
Tuesday night's win over the Blue Devils was the highest-profile upset for the Tigers (9-7, 3-3 ACC) since they beat No. 1 North Carolina on their home court in February 2001.
Duke, which was just dubbed as the sport's lone elite team by our Rob Dauster, saw its nine-game winning streak snapped with just its second setback of the season, with the first being the wild Stephen F. Austin defeat in November.
Simms led the Tigers with a career-high 25 points and nine rebounds, shooting 10 of 15 from the field.
Like they did Saturday in Clemson's historic first win ever at North Carolina, Simms and Tevin Mack dominated the second half for the Tigers.
Full recap coming soon. The Tigers, though, turned it on and finished the night on a 20-10 run to keep Duke at bay for the seven-point win. The other time came in 1990 when the Tigers won their only regular season title in 67 ACC seasons. Forward Vernon Carey Jr. led the team with 20 points and guard Tre Jones chipped in 17 in the losing effort.
