As TV continues to shake the branches of every recognizable intellectual property for any last potential seed of an adaptation or continuation, it seems inevitable that someone would take another stab at bringing Thomas Harris' The Silence of the Lambs to home television screens. Though the film's sequel, Hannibal, has a much different plot, it's unclear whether Clarice will include anything from that film as canon.
Of course, the big question we're now left with is who might handle the role that once got Jodie Foster her second Academy Award.
CBS announced Sunday it has given a series commitment to "Clarice", based on the Federal Bureau of Investigation agent played by Jodie Foster in the Oscar-winning best picture, "The Silence of the Lambs".
It sounds like the new series will go beyond Clarice's career and we'll learn more about her as a person: "Clarice's bravery and complexity have always lit the way, even as her personal story remained in the dark". Though there's some uncertainty about how CBS will handle her story, we'll just have to wait and see what's to come. His time is now and forever.
Hannibal fans (or Fannibals, which this author counts unashamedly counts himself one of) have been left repeatedly disappointed in their efforts to revive the series since it was cancelled in 2015, and news of CBS proceeding with a pilot for a Silence of the Lambs spin-off won't be encouraging. It will follow her as she pursues serial killers and sexual predators. Foster won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as the Federal Bureau of Investigation agent.

The show in development at CBS is known as Clarice, focusing on Foster's character within the film. Though, there were always issues with getting rights to her character.
Executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet issued a statement on the series after the CBS deal was completed.
Are you a fan of The Silence of the Lambs franchise?
And it's not the first time the property has inspired a TV series either, with the acclaimed Hannibal, based on Harris's complex psychopath Hannibal Lecter, airing three series on NBC, with Mads Mikkelsen in the lead. There's the Ellen Page way, which I think would be fantastic and more kind of in line with the Clarice that we all know.
