The Mars 2020 official name will be announced after the contest concludes in early March. It will search for signs of past microbial life on the red planet and collect samples for a future mission that could return them to Earth. The student whose name is selected will receive an invitation to watch this summer's launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. Landing in Jezero Crater on Mars is scheduled February 18, 2021, to originate up gathering recordsdata on the Martian environment and gathering rock samples for return to Earth by a future mission.
Equipped with over 20 cameras, a powerful drill, and even a small helicopter, the mission will help lay the groundwork for possibility of human life on Mars in the upcoming future. The mission is timed for a launch in July/August this year.
