The incident, which went viral on social media, happened while WSAV reporter Alex Bozarjian was in the middle of a live broadcast as runners taking part in the Enmarket Savannah Bridge Run streamed past. She filed a complaint against Callaway with the Savannah Police Department on Wednesday, the New York Post reported. "She feels that a reporter should be able to do her job without being assaulted".
"You violated, objectified, and embarrassed me", Ms Bozarjian wrote recently on Twitter.
Prior to his arrest Callaway, 43, apologized to Bozarjian in an interview with WSAV, saying "I'm thankful for this opportunity to share my apology to her and to her family, her friends and her co-workers".
Bozarjian, shocked and shaken by the slap, tweeted soon after the race, "No woman should EVER have to put up with this at work or anywhere!"
