In Porcello, Wacha, Jake Marisnick and Brad Brach, the Mets have added about $ 17 million in salary commitments for next season.
Neither Wacha or Porcello will jump off the page for a Mets team that still needs a sizable move or two to become legitimate contenders in the NL East. However, he's struggled to return to that form, going 14-12 with a 5.52 ERA with the Red Sox in 2019. However, it does create some important depth within the starting rotation. Porcello has qualified for the ERA title (i.e. pitched at least 162 innings) in all 11 of his seasons - a streak now matched by just Scherzer and Jon Lester.
"Championships are born from great starting players, and if we look at our rotation, we know that we already have players at the top who we know to be dominating players over 162 [games] but also drummers in the postseason, "Van Wagenen said". He possesses the high upside the Mets were seeking in a fifth starter, but without the durability to match it.

Packers to offer hot drinks during freezing game
Things have certainly changed over the last three weeks (all Bears wins), with Mitchell Trubisky being the obvious storyline. Entering Week 15's game against the Packers , Chicago is 7-6 and still alive in the NFC playoff race.
A right-hander who turns 31 on December 27, Porcello joins a rotation that includes Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Marcus Stroman and Steven Matz. But adding rotation depth was one of the team's goals of the offseason. With Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman also preparing to come to spring training as starters, the Mets have eight potential starters vying for five spots in spring training. In a press conference on Friday, Wacha made it clear that he plans to start.
According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the New York Mets will be focussed on "luxury" moves as the rest of the offseason moves forward. Neither Wacha or Porcello comes with a guarantee, but both are good additions for the budget-conscious Mets.
