Montgomery was hired by the Stars in May 2018 and guided the team to a 43-32-7 record in 2018-19 before bowing out in the second round of the playoffs.
Montgomery's firing is not related to that kind of misbehaviour, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team has not elaborated on the reason for Montgomery's dismissal.
TSN's Darren Dreger also reports that Montgomery's dismissal is not due to abuse.
Bowness' NHL coaching experience dates back to 1984 where he served as an assistant coach for the Winnipeg Jets. He departs 31 games into his second season with the Stars occupying the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference entering Tuesday. He has served nine seasons as an National Hockey League head coach with the Jets, Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, New York Islanders and Phoenix Coyotes with five of them being shortened due to mid-season replacements.
