A meme calling the protests now roiling Hong Kong a "shame" blew up the Chinese internet today.
The HKSAR government "severely condemns these violent acts, which are outrageous and have overstepped the bottom line of a civilized society", said the spokesperson.
That was backed up by a statement on a newly launched government website set up to provide the latest information on the crisis, which said, "The police will take relentless enforcement action to bring the persons involved to justice".
Hong Kong police said they arrested five people during clashes with pro-democracy protesters at the airport Tuesday night.
The two victims were sent to Princess Margaret Hospital and North Lantau Hospital respectively.
However, it was unclear if the protesters, who have no public leaders and organise via social media, would return to the airport.
Cathay Pacific says it will comply with the rules imposed by China, banning staff who supported protests from working on flights to China and through its airspace.
The United Nations' human rights chief on Tuesday voiced concern over force used against protesters and called for an impartial probe.

The Chinese Communist newspaper People's Daily published a video of the convoy, which also included unarmed transports and excavation vehicles - quite useful for knocking things over, such as the sort of barricades constructed by Hong Kong protesters -and described them as preparing for a training exercise.
