Stone is on trial in federal court in Washington on charges that include lying to Congress to hide his efforts to contact Wikileaks for information on the Russian-hacked Democratic National Committee emails that the anti-secrecy group was releasing before the 2016 presidential election.
It was the first time that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign acknowledged in court that they had actively sought material from WikiLeaks, which released emails that USA intelligence agencies determined had been hacked by the Russian government in order to damage Clinton.
Under questioning by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Marando, Bannon began his testimony by briefly recounting his stint as CEO of Trump's campaign, working from the 14th floor of Trump Tower.
"The campaign had no official access to WikiLeaks or to Julian Assange, but Roger would be considered, if we needed, an access point - an access point because he had implied or told me that he had a relationship with WikiLeaks and Julian Assange", Bannon said.
Prosecutors on Thursday detailed Republican operative Roger Stone's communication with President Donald Trump and members of his 2016 campaign in attempts to prove he lied to Congress.
Prosecutors have said Stone also lied by failing to disclose he had also asked conservative author named Jerome Corsi to pass along messages and seek to gather intelligence from Assange. The U.S. intelligence community determined the hack was the work of a sophisticated campaign by Russian intelligence operatives to boost Mr. Trump and hurt Hillary Clinton.
He additionally appeared earlier than a federal grand jury and testified earlier than Congress concerning the issues.
Bannon's testimony came after comedian and radio talk show Randy Credico told jurors that Stone pressured him into backing up lies he told Congress, threatening to take away his dog at one point.
"He wanted me to go along with this narrative", Credico mentioned in his second day of testimony. A stoolie. ... My lawyers are dying to rip you to shreds.

Cardinal Pell allowed to challenge sexual abuse conviction

"I didn't want to rile the guy", Credico said.
The radio host instructed the court docket he's had his canine Bianca, a small breed referred to as a coton de tulear, since 2006. "I have no wife, no kids, I've been around the dog for 12 years", he said.
Prosecutors have alleged that Stone attempted to pressure Credico not to testify to Congress for its election interference probe - an allegation that composes in part the witness tampering charge that Stone faces.
In testimony Thursday morning, former FBI agent Michelle Taylor read threatening text messages that Stone had sent Credico in which he urged him not to testify or cooperate in the government's investigations.
Witness Michelle Taylor, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent, detailed hundreds of Stone emails and text messages, many of them with Credico. For almost 90 minutes, defense attorney Robert Buschel challenged earlier testimony by Credico to show that Stone had reason to tell the House panel that the comic had been his source for public statements he made about WikiLeaks as it was releasing the documents. "He's a good guest to have on".
These included an October 4, 2016, exchange in which Bannon emailed Stone after an Assange news conference had failed to produce damaging information on Clinton as expected.
The trial has been colourful at times, with Credico's courtroom impersonation of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and testimony and evidence presented about threats by Stone to Credico's dog. Credico testified that he did not believe that Stone's threats to kidnap his dog were honest, saying under cross-examination by Stone's defense attorney, Buschel, that "it was hyperbole by him".
They went through the pair's text exchanges before Credico's September 2016 trip to London. In reality, there was no meeting planned and the closest Credico got to Assange was delivering a letter from his radio station's administration to the embassy offering Assange a show on their channel.
In August 2016, Credico asked Kunstler to put him in touch with Assange. "He plays hardball, he throws a lot of junk and I didn't want to get hit".
