Erekat said that a meeting of foreign ministers from Arab countries was necessary to order to come to a joint, effective position against the "dangerous" position take by the US.
"Egypt is committed to the resolutions of worldwide legitimacy on the status of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, being illegal and inconsistent with the global law (sic)", the official said, according to State Information Service.
In his announcement, Pompeo said the United States did not necessarily consider the settlements legal, but instead would defer to the judgement of Israeli courts.
The move triggered a massive condemnation, with Palestinians saying that the measure "endorses law of the jungle".
But for its part, Psagot, an Israeli winery in a West Bank settlement, delighted in its schadenfreude over the European Union court ruling on food.
Pompeo said that the USA would not take a position on the legality of specific settlements, that the new policy would not extend beyond the West Bank and that it would not create a precedent for other territorial disputes, he said.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced Monday that the Trump administration is softening its position on the West Bank settlements, saying they were no longer inconsistent with the worldwide law.
Pompeo argues that any legal questions on Israel building settlements in occupied Palestine should be handled by Israeli courts.
The Israeli settlement policy "erodes the viability of the two-state solution and the prospects for a lasting peace", she added.
The decision is the latest in a series of pro-Israeli moves by Donald Trump's administration, including recognising the disputed city of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and recognising Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, seized from Syria in the Six-Day War of 1967.
US federal judge halts Trump administration's bid to resume executions
They argued that it differs from state protocols and that legally federal executions must be carried out according to state law. Chutka wrote in a late Wednesday ruling that the public is not served by "short-circuiting" legitimate judicial process.

He is set to be the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) party's candidate in the parliamentary election expected around April. Gotabaya, 70, had earlier served as defence chief under his brother Mahinda, who himself served as president from 2005-2015.
Israel's Netanyahu charged in corruption cases, deepening political disarray
Police recommended in February that he file criminal charges against Netanyahu in the long-running investigations. The indictment said Mr Netanyahu assisted the Israeli Milchan, a Hollywood mogul, in extending his U.S. visa.
Netanyahu has previously vowed to annex the area, a move that would swallow up most of the West Bank territory sought by the Palestinians, leaving them with little more than isolated enclaves.
Such talk was outright rejected by the Palestinian leader, who maintained that the new United States position must be fought against, and that capitulation was not an option.
Over the next few decades the U.S. held the line that the Israeli settlements were illegitimate but not illegal.
"@SecPompeo's reversal of decades of USA policy is a green light for Israeli annexation of the West Bank, which will permanently impede prospects for a two state solution". Like so much else in the intractable Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the bombshell announcement was a noisy outburst not likely to make much difference on the contested ground any time soon. The move angered Palestinians and immediately put the U.S. at odds with other nations working to end the conflict.
A view shows Palestinian houses in the village of Ein Yabrud with the Jewish settlement of Ofra seen in the background, in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
"We applaud the Trump administration for revealing the truth about the standing of Israeli communities in Judaea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley", the Yesha settlements council said.
"We have the experience of the Palestinians in Israel, who are being discriminated against in all aspect of their lives and their very existence", he said.
"The bottom line of this is that Palestinians will get nothing", Mr Yellin told the Star, pointing out that Israeli courts do not serve the interests of Palestinians. They were rankled not just by the policy change, but also by the scriptural language that some supporters of the shift used to justify it.
While claiming the fate of the settlements is a subject for negotiations, it has steadily expanded them. That is the demand of Israel's national religious right, a core constituency of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which sees the West Bank as part of a historic Jewish homeland. However, I agree with Glick that Pompeo's realism (and President Trump's) about West Bank settlements is a prerequisite for real progress in any meaningful peace process.
