A former key official on the White House National Security Council told the impeachment inquiry targeting President Donald Trump on Thursday that it is a "fictional narrative" that Ukraine, and not Russian Federation, meddled in the 2016 us election that Trump won.
In testimony to the House Intelligence Committee, Hill said based on their questions and statements some members of the panel appear to believe that Russian Federation and its security services did not conduct a campaign against the United States during the 2016 presidential race, and that perhaps Ukraine did.
Some Republican members of the committee have advanced a discredited conspiracy theory, embraced by Trump and some of his allies in Congress and the conservative media, that Ukraine, not Russian Federation, interfered in the last presidential election.
She urged lawmakers not to promote "politically driven falsehoods" that cast doubt on Russia's interference in U.S. elections.
From early in the year, Giuliani mounted a pressure campaign on Zelensky's government to investigate Biden over his son Hunter's ties to a Ukrainian energy company, Burisma, and to probe a conspiracy theory espoused by Trump that Ukraine helped Democrats against him in 2016.
The two final witnesses of the week are expected to shed additional light on the allegations that Trump withheld millions of dollars in aid to Ukraine in exchange for extracting a promise that the country's new government would open investigations that could benefit him politically.
"That is the Democrats' pitiful legacy", Mr Nunes said in his opening remarks.
In an October 8 tweet, Mr Trump had described his ambassador to the European Union as "a really good man and great American". Few Republican senators have broken with Trump. She testified previously about being told in May that Zelenskiy was rattled by overtures from Sondland and Trump personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani.
On Wednesday, Gordon Sondland, the Trump-selected USA ambassador to the European Union, told the Intelligence panel that the president and top officials in his administration were at the center of a quid pro quo plan, Trump's efforts to get Ukraine to open the investigation of Biden, his son Hunter Biden's work for a Ukrainian natural gas company and the 2016 election before he would agree to a White House meeting with Zelenskiy.
She said she had already expressed regrets to Bolton about Giuliani's "smear campaign" against Marie Yovanovitch, the former USA ambassador to Ukraine, who Trump withdrew prematurely from Kiev in May.
Eliot Engel, the head of the House Foreign Affairs Committee - one of the three chairs running the original impeachment inquiry - said that Sondland's testimony had made Democrats reassess how to proceed. She said Bolton had referred to Giuliani as a "hand grenade".

Hill slams 'fictional narrative' about Ukraine
He said that while he doesn't dispute much of what Holmes has said, he disputes having used the term "Biden". The two witnesses set to appear Thursday are the last scheduled for public hearings.
Mueller's team brought criminal charges against 12 Russian intelligence officers in the hacking effort, accusing them of covertly monitoring employee computers and planting malicious code, as well as stealing emails and other documents.
Russia's efforts to meddle in the election have been confirmed by a host of federal, congressional intelligence and national security groups, including the CIA, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the FBI, the Department of Justice, the NSA, the Department of Homeland Security and intelligence committees in both the House and Senate.
"They're doing it as we sit here", Mueller told lawmakers of Russian interference at the time.
Hill, an American who was born in the United Kingdom, planned to describe her family's background as coal miners who immigrated to the U.S. She will emphasize that she's served under three presidents from both parties during her foreign policy career, said the individual, who discussed her testimony ahead of the hearing on condition of anonymity.

"So, he's gonna do the investigation?"
Sondland, who donated $1 million to Trump's inauguration and said he likes the president, didn't disagree: "I don't recall President Trump ever talking to me about any security assistance, ever", he said.
"He's gonna do it", replied Sondland, according to Holmes.
After Sondland hung up with the president, Holmes asked if it was true that Trump did not "give a s- about Ukraine".
Holmes has told lawmakers in closed-door testimony that he heard Trump's voice on the July 26 phone call with Sondland at a Kiev restaurant in which Trump asked about Ukraine's willingness to carry out an investigation. In his testimony before the committee on Wednesday, he said he had remembered the conversation and had no reason to dispute Holmes' general recollection of it.
