House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff said three State Department witnesses will appear in two hearings Wednesday and Friday: the USA ambassador to Ukraine, Bill Taylor, career department official George Kent and Marie Yovanovitch, the former US ambassador to Ukraine.
"Because President Trump should be afforded an opportunity to confront his accusers, the anonymous whistleblower should testify", Nunes wrote. The committee also must consider whether to summon the witnesses sought by Republicans, who call the impeachment process a sham. Democrats involved in the inquiry haven't officially responded to the request from Nunes.
He also has said there is no need to hear from the whistleblower because other witnesses broadly have substantiated the complaint.
"The president's allies would like nothing better than to out this whistleblower", Schiff said. "We will not stand for that". Reps. Nunes, Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Mark Meadows, R-North Carolina, have said they're trying to identify an important witness.
"Trump's behavior is in line with how most whistleblowers are treated", said Rosemary Dew, who has written a manuscript about Federal Bureau of Investigation whistleblowers and who also was one. "It seems interesting to me that Chairman Schiff is so sensitive".
According to the report, the first witness House Republicans want to hear from is Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, and the whistleblower who filed the initial complaint that led to the impeachment inquiry against President Trump.
Biden's work for Burisma is an issue in the impeachment inquiry into whether Trump abused his power by asking that Ukrainian leaders investigate the Bidens at the same time that he was withholding military aid from their country.

Schiff has called about a dozen witnesses to closed-door hearings with three House committees. Both testified they were concerned Trump was inappropriately pressuring Ukraine to investigate Democrats.
Despite attacks by Trump and his supporters against the Ukraine whistleblower, others, like the Central Intelligence Agency employee, will not be dissuaded from exposing wrongdoing, according to one who did.

Members of Congress should have a clear interest in protecting the identity of the whistleblower, said multiple intelligence and political experts.
The GOP requested that former National Security Council official Tim Morrison testify if Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman is called to testify. "I was really thinking along the lines of wanting to get him to come in to testify", Schiff said. "Instead, they'd feel they have to go to the press. which could come with criminal charges. Based on precedent and lack of jurisdiction, the House Intelligence Committee should not take the lead in conducting such hearings; however, by now the American people know your desire to see the duly-elected president removed from office outweighs your sense of responsibility to running a functioning intelligence oversight committee", Nunes wrote in a November 8 letter to Schiff.
