Give the people what they want, HBO Max and WBTV. Deals now need to be completed with all involved and schedules locked down in order for the special to become a reality. Of course, the talks could fizzle and the whole concept could fall apart.
After spending $425 million for the rights to "Friends", it was just a question of how AT&T would leverage the deal and a reunion appears to be the answer.
The Hollywood Reporter and Variety on Tuesday reported that preliminary talks were underway for an unscripted reunion special that would feature all six "Friends" actors and air on upcoming streaming service HBO Max, a unit of AT&T's WarnerMedia. As of now, the makers as well as the streaming platform have declined to comment on the subject.
According to THR's report, the main cast is more than willing to participate in the reunion. Five of the six stars - save for Perry - participated in the look back that also featured the casts of Will and Grace, Cheers and The Big Bang Theory. Following a group of young pals residing in NY, the series starred Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green, Courteney Cox as Monica Geller, Lisa Kudroa as Phoebe Buffay, Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani, Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing, and David Schwimmer as Ross Geller.
