In California, flu usually begins to increase in late November or December.
Thursday, Oct. 24 from 4:00 p.m.to 7:00 p.m., we are hosting.the Oneida County Health Department nurses, at Rhinelander High School for the mass flu clinic for the community. Doctors said there is no reason to worry because hospitals expect more flu shots to be delivered very soon. Plus, the flu vaccine changes slightly year after year anyway, so last year's shot wouldn't protect you as well as this year's anyway.
A person with the flu may be contagious and infect others before they even feel sick.
St. Jude announced Wednesday that it is one of two hospitals across the country selected by the National Institute of Health to help develop a more effective flu vaccine. "This year in particular, I think people really should make a concerted effort to try to get vaccinated". "This is a pretty typical time for us to start seeing (the flu)", Lin Montgomery of the Jackson County Health Department said. There is also a stronger vaccine for people over 65-years-old, but it will not be available in pharmacies. "The truth is, the flu shot or any vaccine takes a week or two or even a little bit longer to actually build that immune in your system". Those people include kids, senior citizens and pregnant women.
Martian says he believes companies do a good job with advertising, making those 65 and older believe they can only get the high dose vaccine when its not the case.
There are a couple of other groups who are also more likely to get the flu. Protecting children can also stop the infection spreading to family, friends and others.
