DPHHS officials said in a press release on Wednesday that the case involves a person in their late teens with a history of vaping.
Information provided to the CDC also includes evidence gathered from patient interviews and patient medical records reviews. Of those, 29 cases were reported to the CDC, 63 cases are under investigation and 60 have been ruled out, the agency said.
Federal authorities, meanwhile, said Wednesday that most of the mysterious illnesses nationwide linked to vaping THC, the psychoactive compound of marijuana, have been traced to the illicit market. Some policymakers are also citing the recent surge in vaping-related illnesses as they halt e-cigarette sales.
NY state, MI and Rhode Island have all banned the sale of flavored vaping products.
USA health officials have said there may be more than one cause for the outbreak of the illness and that they do not see a meaningful drop in the number of new cases. Twenty-five people were hospitalized from their illnesses.
The CDC on Thursday also identified 33 vaping-related deaths in 24 states: three each from California, Indiana and Minnesota; two each from Georgia, Kansas and OR; and one each from Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia.
