"With this update, you will set your own specific levels of automated filtration so you can decide what's acceptable and what isn't in the text-based messages you receive across Xbox Live". Users can alter the level of message safety in the family and safety settings.
Microsoft is planning to implement the filtration to most of its Xbox service including the activity feed.
"Friendly, ' the most restrictive filter setting, will automatically get rid of almost all swear words and content that parents may find objectionable for children; "Medium" will filter out most offensive language aside from select language; Mature is a bare-bones filter while 'unfiltered" provides no content restrictions. That means leveraging Microsoft's existing efforts in speech-to-text machine-learning algorithms to automatically filter out swear words that might come up in an Xbox Live party chat. You might, for instance, want to allow unfiltered messages from friends but have more aggressive filters from strangers.
Notably, Twitter has begun to test out similar message filters in the last several months that are created to interdict abuse before it reaches a victim.
The filters will not only apply to Xbox One consoles but across both PC and Mobile. The friendly filter will be default for all child accounts - though you can change it if you'd like - and will hide as much potentially offensive language as possible.
