According to the VPD, the protest, which joined similar demonstrations around the world as part of the global Extinction Rebellion movement urging more government action to fight climate change, was peaceful with no major incidents until the arrests.
The group's website states "we will peacefully occupy the centers of power and shut them down until governments act on the Climate and Ecological Emergency".
Police said 152 arrests had been made on Tuesday, taking the total number over the two days to 471 as some protesters lay down in the road outside parliament whilst others dressed in colourful costumes or brought tree saplings to give to lawmakers.
Extinction Rebellion said protesters from the XR Peace group were arrested as they blocked Victoria Embankment, outside the Ministry of Defence.
Ms Platt went on to accuse the Government of having "deaf ears" over the issue. "What this means is that the government would rather arrest people than take real action on climate change", one protester told CP24 on Monday afternoon.
