Speaking in Brighton, Corbyn said: "Congress, the coming general election will be a chance for a real change of direction".
Mr Corbyn said he would make a decision over which way Labour would campaign in a new referendum after the party has negotiated a deal with the EU.
Mr Banks funded the Leave.EU campaign during the 2016 EU referendum and also bankrolled UKIP during Mr Farage's time as leader of his former party. Mark Serwotka, the general secretary of the PCS union, criticised Mr Watson for making the demand.
He wrote in the Sunday Telegraph: "Johnson should cast his mind back to the European elections in May, in which his party came fifth, and ask himself: does he want the Tories to find themselves in a similarly disastrous position when the results of the next general election come in, or does he want to sign a non-aggression pact with me and return to Downing Street?"
Mr Watson believes that if an election is called, Labour's position should be clear: "We must unambiguously and unequivocally back remain", he said, adding that this is "not for electoral or tactical reasons, but because it is the right thing to do for the country at this time of greatest crisis since the second world war".
The Brexit Party leader used a newspaper advert on Wednesday to set out how he would not stand candidates against the Conservatives in some areas if the prime minister committed to a "clean-break Brexit".
Johnson, who was a figurehead for the Vote Leave campaign in the 2016 referendum, when 52 percent of voters backed Brexit, has rejected opposition complaints that he was undemocratically denying parliament the right to debate Brexit.
Scottish court ruling: Johnson's prorogation 'unlawful'
The court heard the prime minister was sent a note on 15 August asking if he wanted to prorogue parliament from mid-September. Downing Street said it was disappointed by the ruling and that the prorogation of Parliament had been "legal and necessary".

Mugabe to be buried next Sunday
He was not available for comment after Reuters saw the government memo or after it spoke to the three other Mugabe relatives. He was once revered and celebrated as an independence hero when he came into power in 1980.
He claimed Johnson's government is not serious about trying to get a Brexit deal with the EU. "But I also say we are prepared for a disorderly Brexit", Merkel told parliament.
"Labour will do everything to prevent a no deal exit from the European Union".
Likewise, he noted that the Conservative Party would use a hard Brexit as an excuse to sell-off public services, do away with regulations that protect the United Kingdom population and strip workers of their rights.
Senior members of the Westminster shadow cabinet, such as Keir Starmer, Emily Thornberry, John McDonnell and Tom Watson, had wanted Labour to adopt an unambiguous remain position.
"My experience on the doorstep tells me most of those who've deserted us over our Brexit policy did so with deep regret and would greatly prefer to come back", he will add. "If we stand from them, they simply can not acquire a bulk".
"And - of course - "remain" should and will be on the ballot paper along with a credible option to leave".
In the early hours of yesterday morning, Mr Johnson lost his second bid for a snap general election amid angry scenes in the Commons.
