British official assured Ukrainian leader that he will express his position against Russia's return to G7 during the next summit of the Group of Seven in France on August 24-26 as the presidential press service reported.

The G7 annual summit will bring together leaders of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States.
Macron has maintained a testy relationship with Putin over the last two years but has also insisted that links should not be broken even at a time of rising tensions with the West.
Tensions between the US and Iran, the conflict in Syria and the situation in Ukraine will be at the heart of the discussions, Macron said while meeting Putin in southern France on Monday.

The Russian Federation was expelled from the old G8 format after it had annexed the Ukrainian Crimea in 2014 and all other members of the group - the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the US - imposed sanctions against Moscow.
Moscow had joined the group in 1998 - when the G7 became the G8 - under the presidency of Boris Yeltsin as the West tried to anchor post-Soviet Russia into the global community.
But Germany, France, Britain - all G7 members - quickly rebuffed Trump, noting that Russian Federation was excluded after it annexed Ukraine's Crimea and then backed an anti-Kiev rebellion in the industrial region of Donbas in eastern Ukraine. In 2017, Trump announced the US was withdrawing from the agreement, and mention of it in final G7 and G20 statements since has created tensions between the USA and other countries at such meetings.
