Speaking to reporters after departing his golf club in Bedminster on Sunday, Trump dismissed media reports that his administration is going to allow the Chinese telecommunication company to buy supplies from USA firms for yet another three months.
Huawei could be given another 90-day window to buy components from USA suppliers in order to serve existing smartphone and telco customers.
The U.S. Commerce Department is expected to extend a reprieve given to Huawei Technologies that permits the Chinese firm to buy supplies from U.S. companies so that it can service existing customers, two sources familiar with the situation said.
If China is indeed a security threat Trump should not use Huawei as a bargaining chip nor should the United States supply Huawei with parts. "I don't want to do business at all because it is a national security threat and I really believe that the media has covered it a little bit differently than that". For Huawei, this will very likely provide the company with a comfortable timeline in which to stock up on components necessary for its 2020 production schedule. Larry Kudlow, the White House national Economic Council director, said that there will be up to 10 more days of discussions with China.
However, the ban was later delayed by 90 days during which the company was allowed to buy components made by the United States companies in a bid to maintain existing networks and also for delivering software updates for existing Huawei devices.

"We're giving a break to our own companies for three months", Kudlow said on NBC's "Meet the Press".
Trump said Cook "made a good case" that tariffs could hurt Apple, given that Samsung's products would not be subject to those same tariffs.
As an example, the blacklisting order cited a criminal case pending against the company in federal court, over allegations that Huawei violated U.S. sanctions against Iran. Tariffs on an additional $300 billion worth of Chinese goods, including consumer electronics, are scheduled to go into effect in two stages on September 1 and December 15.
The new list of 44 categories of spared imports, worth about US$7.8 billion, according to US Census Bureau data, also includes some chemical compounds used in the manufacture of plastics. But Trump on Sunday disputed that notion, telling reporters that "actually, it's the opposite" of what has been reported.
Huawei did not have an immediate comment.
