Floods kill at least 22 in southern India, displace thousands

Landslides in Wayanad and Nilambur are disrupting the traffic and are proving to be a challenge for the rescue and relief operations.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday conducted a review meeting of the disaster management activities in the wake of incessant rains in the state, and informed that 22 people have died so far while over 22,000 people have been evacuated to relief camps set up in the state.
In Kerala, rains continued to wreak havoc for the second day, as the death toll from floods and landslides reached 28 on Friday.
Kerala was hit by devastating floods last August that killed more than 200 people and affected more than 5 million.
Earlier, it was reported that several villages in the Sangli district have been cut off from the main road due to the massive waterlogging and a flood-like situation due to heavy rainfall in the area.
