Fitbit on Wednesday launched its latest smartwatch, Versa 2, adding Amazon.com's voice assistant Alexa, online payments and music storage in a bid to compete strongly with Apple's smartwatches. Also, the smartwatch comes with a faster processor and longer-lasting battery. With these added AI smarts, you can use Alexa to set reminders or ask "where is the nearest gym", for example, via the device's in-built microphone.
Fitbit scooped up the remains of fan-favorite smartwatch maker Pebble several years ago, using that expertise to launch its own line of smartwatches. So will you be upgrading your health with these Fitbit products?
Apple is expected to introduce new Apple Watch models at its annual September unveiling of new iPhones and other products, but Fitbit chose to go ahead and get the jump on the company by teasing a forthcoming Versa 2 smartwatch.
This watch comes with a variety of existing Fitbit smartwatch features that can track your overall health as well as your normal fitness.
The wearable features an OLED display with always-on display mode also being available. The device gets battery backup of up to 5 days. Fitbit has also said it should improve battery life from around four days on a single charge to five. Both features are pretty standard among the array of sleep apps available on Android and iOS, but many people prefer a one-stop-shop for their wellness needs. The design upgrades are subtle but on closer inspection, you'll notice that the Versa 2 is visually more minimal (there's now just one button on the left-hand side) and the smooth, polished metal on the sides along with a slightly thinner bezel give it a much more slick aesthetic. Fitbit will be exploring promotional pricing and product bundle offers and will "continue to expand upon and refine Premium based on customer feedback". $200 will get you a Versa 2 in either carbon (black), copper rose (rose gold), or mist grey (grey). (GPS will be available, but only when tethered to a phone).

New correlated insights based on your Fitbit data that reveal connections between your sleep and activity, such as: "When you walk more than your average 8,502 steps, you get 7 more minutes of deep sleep, helping you feel more rested".
The company has also announced a special edition of Versa 2 which is priced at Rs 22,999. Fitbit Premium is a paid subscription service that will use a user's unique data to deliver more personalized experiences from Fitbit, including guidance and coaching to help users achieve their health and fitness goals. Previously, you've had to have a specific version of the Fitbit Versa in some markets to get access to this feature, but that's not the case on the Versa 2. For $US10 ($15) a month ($US80 ($119) a year) Fitbit Premium promises to give you better advice about sleep and workouts.
You'll also get a 7-day free trial of Fitbit Premium with the Versa 2, and those who opt for the Special Edition device will get a 90-day free trial of the new service instead.
The Versa 2 hits shelves on September 15 worldwide, with pre-orders starting now.
Besides a new watch and new service, Fitbit also introduced a new smart scale.
