Trejo, 75, told television station KA BC-TV he was on his way to an auto mechanic in L.A.'s Sylmar neighborhood when he saw a motorist run a red light and crash into another vehicle, which flipped over onto its roof in the intersection. The female bystander helping Trejo then crawled though from the opposite angle, and was able to successfully unclasp the auto seat buckle, which allowed Trejo to safely pull the baby out from the wreckage.
Trejo told CNN that he tried to crawl through a broken window in order to free the child but was unable to undo the vehicle seat.
"Pay attention. The only thing that saved that little kid was his vehicle seat, honest to God".
Three people were injured though none of the injuries is life-threatening.
Trejo described the accident to NBCLA, saying; 'A lady ran a red light and crashed into that Explorer, flipped it over'.
"Everything good that has happened to me has happened as a direct result of helping someone else", Trejo told CNN affiliate KABC.
