The freshman congresswoman introduced the legislation Wednesday "in response to a widespread campaign being waged by the Israeli government and its US supporters to silence Americans who choose to engage in BDS", according to a Wednesday press release from Omar's office.
"Democratic U.S. Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are planning a visit to Israel and the West Bank in the coming weeks, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will have to decide whether they would be let in to the country, over the support they have voiced for the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement", reports Haaretz.
She made the announcement the same day that she introduced a new "pro-boycott" of Israel resolution in Congress "affirming that all Americans have the right to participate in boycotts in pursuit of civil and human rights at home and overseas, as protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution". "But truly, everything that I hear points to both sides feeling like there is still an occupation".
It is unclear if she and Tlaib will be admitted into Israel.
Ultimately, the decision will be made by the Prime Minister.
While Israeli law dictates that entry can be denied to pro-boycott individuals, the Foreign Ministry can also recommend waivers to the Strategic Affairs Ministry and the Interior Ministry to facilitate entry when barring individuals would negatively impact Israel's diplomatic efforts.

In April, Washington barred Palestinian activist Omar Barghouti from entering the country for his boycott of Israel.
Rep. Brad Sherman, a pro-Israel Democrat, suggested that Republicans have backed away from what had previously been a bipartisan pillar of foreign policy across multiple presidencies because Netanyahu himself has not fully embraced a two-state solution.
This led to the passing of a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives condemning anti-Semitism and other forms of hatred that did not call out Omar by name.
In a July 17 interview with "CBS This Morning", Omar expressed no regrets for those remarks. "I want to make sure that we are furthering policies and advocating for things that get people closer to having that conversation".
When asked by King if she would "like to make that clear" she isn't anti-Semitic, Omar said, "Oh, certainly not".
"Yes, nothing I said, at least to me, was meant for that objective", she added.
