"We fully share that vision, and we're proud to bring more than two decades of offshore wind expertise to the state and to be fronting the offshore wind build-out in NY with a combined 1,000MW capacity via our South Fork and Sunrise Wind projects". The award remains subject to the execution of the OREC purchase and sale agreement, which Equinor looks forward to finalizing together with NYSERDA.
Sunrise Wind is a 50-50 partnership between Ørsted, a leading offshore wind developer, and Eversource, New England's largest energy company. "The offshore wind industry offers great opportunities for long-term industrial development, and Sunrise Wind will bring skilled jobs to the state during construction and throughout its operational lifetime".
Alicia Barton, NYSERDA President and CEO said, "Today, Governor Cuomo solidified New York's clean energy and climate leadership status with the single greatest commitment to offshore wind by a state in US history". The state's project selections resulting from its inaugural offshore wind solicitation represent the largest commitment to offshore wind in the U.S. This selection also represents an important milestone for Equinor's ambition of building an offshore wind core area on the U.S. East Coast.

The deal involves the delivery and installation of SG 8.0-167 DD machines for the 880-MW Sunrise Wind, 704-MW Revolution Wind and 130-MW South Fork projects.
Sanders Campaign Workers Demand $15 Hourly Pay
The independent from Vermont has also led the fight to boost the current minimum wage , which stands at $7.25 an hour, to $15. Still, Sanders has been supportive of the effort and the campaign voluntarily recognized staffers' bargaining unit.
Ibrahimovic scores hat-trick in LA derby, including wonderstrike
Just four minutes had gone when LAFC were awarded a penalty after Carlos Vela had been brought down by goalkeeper David Bingham . Vela ended the scoring with goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time with a right-footed shot into the far corner.
Saudi Arabia has decided to host US troops: Saudi defence ministry
Troops are preparing the base for the arrival of aircraft and additional soldiers later in the summer, one USA official said. That same day, the U.S. claimed to have shot down an Iranian drone threatening a U.S. ship, which Tehran denies.
But even as NY steps on the gas pedal for wind power, federal regulators may be applying the brake in southern New England. They aren't the same as getting steel in the water, which is why it's also important to have construction underway in Virginia, and Rhode Island following up on its first-in-the-nation project (what might be the first large-scale offshore wind project, off MA, has just hit a couple of speed bumps). The project's planned interconnection point is the Holbrook and West-Bus substations in the town of Brookhaven within the Long Island Power Authority's (LIPA) service territory.
The New York and New Jersey contracts also put Ørsted into a dominant position off the East Coast. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) on June 21 gave its first award for offshore wind to Ørsted's 1.1-GW Ocean Wind project. This ambitious proposal also includes plans to educate and train New Yorkers to work in the wind energy industry.
The New York announcements, predictably, were hailed by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA). While the wind parks are slated to enter commercial operation by 2024, the state's renewable energy and climate goals total 9,000 megawatts of offshore wind by 2035. But, before the projects can begin construction, "they must pass a series of rigorous federal and state permitting requirements that ensure environmental and economic impacts are considered", the trade group said in a statement to POWER on Thursday. "The environment and climate change are the most critically important policy priorities we face. Today, we put NY on a path to lead the nation to a clean energy economy".
"When Governor Cuomo increased the USA offshore wind market by 62 percent in January, industry opportunities and challenges became very clear, very quickly", said Liz Burdock, president of the industry advocacy group Business Network for Offshore Wind. Moving along that technology potentially opens up a lot more options for offshore wind in the deeper waters off ME and the West Coast. "Building offshore wind at scale will help drive down costs, create tens of thousands of new U.S.jobs, and drive billions of dollars in private investment", noted AWEA.
"Denmark's Ørsted is now the undisputable center of the USA offshore wind market with roughly 3 gigawatts (3,000 MW) of awarded projects; given the currently expected solicitation schedules of other states, no other developer could likely amass a similar portfolio until at least 2022".
