Her question came during an informal press gathering when reporter Andrew Feinberg asked her about US President Donald Trump's tweets regarding Democratic congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley and Ilhan Omar.
Conway still would not answer Feinberg's question, instead insisting that he question was relevant because Trump said "originally" from-he didn't-and going on a rant about how "a lot of us are sick and exhausted in this country of America coming last", echoing comments she made on Fox News earlier in the day about the "Squad" representing a "dark underbelly in this country". Conway later said in a tweet that she meant "no disrespect" and that she was trying to show that everyone is "from somewhere 'originally'".
On Monday, Cummings said the claim of immunity was "completely baseless" and the committee is not asking her to testify about advice she gave Trump or White House policy decisions.
Three weeks ago, Conway declined to appear voluntarily at a similar hearing before the committee, prompting it to vote 25-16 to subpoena her testimony. "They targeted her because she's effective".
"No no, it is because you're asking about - he said 'originally, ' he said 'originally from, ' " Conway shot back.
"Many people agree with me", he said. It recommended she be removed from her White House job.

"So the White House is doubling down on Trump's racism by having spox ask reporters their ethnicity?" The OSC previously concluded that she "violated the Hatch Act in two television interviews" and "in both instances, Conway appeared in her official capacity".
"As a member of the President's inner circle, she may not be compelled by a congressional committee to testify about matters related to her official duties", the OLC letter read.
'This is a clear cut case. "We are requiring her to testify before Congress about her multiple violations of federal law, her waste of taxpayer funds, and her actions that compromise public confidence in the integrity of the federal government".
A July 15 letter to Cummings from the White House (pdf) stated that Conway is "absolutely immune from compelled congressional testimony" and cited a July 12 letter from the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel (pdf) that concluded the same. The committee wants to question her about allegations she violated the Hatch Act, a law that limits federal employees' political activity.
Earlier this afternoon Speaker Nancy Pelosi called Trump's tweets racist, and Republican Rep. Doug Collins objected and said her remarks should be stricken from the record.
OSC found that Conway has violated the Hatch Act in the past.
