When the three mystical Fates of Hercules foresaw the future of the planet, I'm nearly certain they predicted that a certain boy band singer named Harry Styles would one day bring their colleague Prince Eric to life in a live-action The Little Mermaid film.
Styles, who rose to stardom as one-fifth of One Direction, would join in a leading role opposite Bailey, who's a protege of Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as a member of R&B duo Chloe x Halle. However, that was remedied in the 2000s Broadway musical, with Eric now performing several, including two solos. Styles could also brush shoulders with Melissa McCarthy - the amusing lady in consideration to play Ursula, the sinister sea witch who deceives Ariel and tricks Eric - as well as Jacob Tremblay, who's up for the voice role of Ariel's fish friend Flounder, and Awkwafina, who is in talks to lend her voice to a gender-swapped version of Ariel's seagull pal Scuttle.
In terms of the creative staff, it looks like Disney aren't mining for new talent - Rob Marshall is handling directing duties, and Lin-Manuel Miranda will compose and write a new song for the film. He was recently in talks to play Elvis for Baz Luhrmann's Elvis biopic, but was beaten out for the role by Austin Butler. That's the classic 1989 animated film that Disney is now in the process of turning into its next live-action reimagining.
