The Golden State Warriors have acquired guard D'Angelo Russell, along with guard Shabazz Napier and forward Treveon Graham, in a sign-and-trade transaction that sent free agent forward Kevin Durant and a protected first round draft pick to the Brooklyn Nets, the team announced today.
However, Durant might simply see his Nets tenure as the beginning of a new era and deserving of a new number.
Meanwhile, on the West Coast, Golden State Warriors co-chairman and CEO Joe Lacob suggested that KD's No. 35 jersey for the team would be retired following his departure. Not just that, he also managed to convince Kevin Durant to join the Nets and play together with him. Durant explained his decision via Instagram on one of his business pages, Thirty Five Ventures.
Last week Durant committed to Brooklyn and chose to move on from his time with Golden State. Durant wouldn't play again until Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Raptors, where he ruptured his Achilles.
