Britain cancelled flights to Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh in 2015 after jihadists bombed a Russian airliner carrying holiday-makers from the Red Sea resort, killing more than 220 people on board.
The United Kingdom's Foreign Office has updated its advice to British citizens travelling to Egypt and warns of "a heightened risk of terrorism against aviation".
In an abrupt turn of events, passengers flying through British Airways on Saturday were shocked to discover that the airline has cancelled all flights to and from Cairo for seven days, citing "security reasons".
"The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our priority, and we would never operate an aircraft unless it was safe to do so", it said. The German airline said normal operations would resume Sunday. Cairo's airport was apparently taken by surprise, too: A spokesman told the British news outlet that the airport had not yet heard of the changes from British Airways.
Lufthansa said it was suspending its flights as a precaution, mentioning "safety" but not "security" as its concern.
"I've never heard of flights to/from a destination being canceled except in the event of an uprising or terrorist attack or something extreme along those lines", he wrote.
"After checking in, BA told her that flights had been suspended".
"It was handled badly to be honest", she said. "My grandson is now looking for flights for us - he's devastated".

She said: "I can not afford to go but I have to go".
As with most travel advice coming from Australia, the United States and a majority of European countries, travel to most sites in Sinai Peninsula was advised against.
But, Cairo is part of a safer region, where the FCO only suggests reviewing its advice before visiting.
That attack, which was claimed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS), prompted Russian Federation to halt all flights to Egypt for several years and a number of countries including Britain to cease flights to Sharm el-Sheikh, which have yet to resume.
