Jair Bolsonaro is considering appointing his son Eduardo as ambassador to Washington, the Brazilian leader has revealed, citing the 35-year-old's friendship with the children of US President Donald Trump.
Far-right leader Jair Bolsonaro told reporters that his son Eduardo could be "a suitable" person and is "perfectly qualified" to serve in Washington, reported Spanish daily El Periodico on Friday.
Eduardo Bolsonaro, 35, who's for the time being serving as a congressman and advises his father on worldwide affairs, knowledgeable newshounds he would glean the post if it were offered.
Bolsonaro said at a news conference Thursday that nominating his son is, in his words, "something on my radar".
Eduardo would must resign as a congressman if he did take in the place of ambassador. Earlier on Friday, he met with Foreign Minister Eduardo Araujo and said the minister supports his nomination.
The appointment would need to be approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee before passing to the full upper house for confirmation.

The Brazilian embassy in Washington has been without an Ambassador since April, when the President transferred the previous envoy to the Foreign Ministry back in Brazil.
The president said the nomination "would be the ideal message to Washington".
Bolsonaro's eldest son, Flavio, is advancing his conservative social agenda as a senator.
Eduardo, the third of the president's four sons and a daughter from three marriages, has counselled his father on foreign affairs.
Eduardo, now a member of parliament, accompanied his father to a private meeting with Trump during a diplomatic visit to Washington in March.
