Known as the PC Engine in Japan and the TurboGrafx-16 in North America, distribution issues and the dominance of Sega and Nintendo meant NEC's late '80s home console could not find the worldwide audience it might have otherwise deserved.
The company has also announced the first six games for each territory. On the last day of E3, Konami dropped the bombshell that it is bringing back a miniature version of the TurboGrafx-16 that was initially manufactured and marketed by NEC Home Electronics, and designed by Hudson Soft. Despite these, however, the system actually ran on an 8-bit CPU.
A faithfully scaled-down version of the original TurboGrafx-16 design, right down to the smallest detail. Numerous games on those systems, though, have been re-released in myriad forms for many different platforms over the years.
The original PC Engine initially launched in Japan all the way back in 1987, followed by the TurboGrafx-16 in 1989 in North America, followed by the PC Engine CoreGrafx in the same year.

According to Konami's official website for the system, the retro console comes with most of the most bells and whistles that its competitors have. They only just revealed the mini version, and have yet to discuss a price or release date.
Additionally, the system will allow five players to play together using a multitap peripheral that will be sold separately.
In total, roughly 650 games were released for the PC Engine, with only 121 of those localized and 18 being exclusive to the USA market.
