At least one customer reported a failure, which led to the vehicle hitting a curb, though no injuries have been associated with the condition.
The reference number for the Ford F-150 recall is 19S19.
The automaker will alert owners of all Explorers made between May 17, 2010, through January 26, 2017 (2011-2017 models) of the issue. One is a recall of 12,000 Ford Taurus and Flex cars as well as Lincoln MKS and MKT vehicles sold in Canada.

Ford said the powertrain control module software used to service the vehicles was incomplete and did not have the necessary updates to prevent a potential unintended downshift into first gear. If traveling at a high speed, this downshift could be risky and lead to a loss of control.
Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this issue. The affected vehicles range from model year 2009 through 2017.
Vehicles that did not undergo the 19S07 reprogramming are not affected by the current recall and will receive updated software under the existing 19S07 program, Ford said.
Ford is issuing a safety recall for select 2009-16 Ford Econoline vehicles equipped with a 5R110W transmission, 5.4-liter engine, and a school bus or ambulance prep package. A substandard weld may fatigue and fail, causing an elevated rate of reports of the loss of the ability to move in the subject vehicle applications.
The company will also replace the coast clutch cylinder and the single-engaging coast one-way clutch for the 5.4-liter engine for loss of motive power issue. They have a similar problem with their toe links.
