US President Donald Trump has signed a full pardon for former media mogul Conrad Black, who was convicted in 2007 of fraud and obstruction of justice and spent three-and-a-half years in prison. Hollinger was the publisher of a number of papers throughout the world, including The Daily Telegraph, Chicago Sun-Times and The Jerusalem Post, as well as hundreds of smaller community newspapers, according to Deadline.
Black, 74, spent nearly 3½ years in a Florida prison before being released and deported back to Canada.
Shortly after the pardon was announced, Canada's National Post published an article from Black in which he continued to take issue with his conviction and said he was "at last, officially not guilty even in the conviction-mad United States".
The White House said last night that the former owner of The Daily Telegraph was "entirely deserving of this Grant of Executive Clemency", adding that he had a "distinguished reputation for helping others" and had "made tremendous contributions to business, as well as to political and historical thought".
"Lord Black's case has attracted broad support from many high-profile individuals who have vigorously vouched for his exceptional character".
He called it a long ordeal that was "never anything but a confluence of unlucky events, the belligerence of several corporate governance charlatans, and grandstanding local and American judges, all fanned by an unusually frenzied global media showing exceptional interest in the case because I was a media owner". It named Sir Elton John and former U.S. secretary of state, Henry Kissinger, as among his supporters.

A former member of the British House of Lords, he was sentenced to more than six years in prison after his 2007 conviction in Chicago, but was released on bail two years later to pursue an appeal that was partially successful. Exactly one year after publishing a book praising Trump, Conrad Black granted a full pardon by 45.
Critics have accused Mr Trump of using his powers of pardon to address what he believes are political wrongs.
A description of Black's book on Trump compared it to two other presidential biographies he had written and said that this time around Black had turned "his attention to his "friend" President Donald J. Trump".
"If you were able to put in a cameo appearance and say a supporting word, I'm sure it would have an impact on the group and be favourably noted in the press", Black wrote.
