Negotiations between Sony and Microsoft began a year ago and were handled directly by senior management, which means the PlayStation division largely wasn't involved, a source told Bloomberg. Understandably this freaked some folks out, the report claiming that "managers had to calm workers and assure them that plans for the company's next-generation console weren't affected".
Reports indicate PlayStation employees were unaware of Sony and Microsoft partnering to improve their cloud gaming services, and were caught off guard by the announcement.
As part of these efforts, Sony agreed to a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Microsoft Corp.
With improving internet infrastructure close to making cloud gaming a reality, Sony revealed last week that it's opted to collaborate with the very same company it's been competing with over the past twenty years to joint-develop streaming technology.
Also, securing Sony for its Azure business could make it the new standard for cloud deployment over Amazon Web Services. PlayStation's Shawn Layden recently called for unity among game makers during the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, while Microsoft is now working on a software development kit that allows developers to integrate the Xbox Live service into titles on multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.
But, Asymmetric Advisors strategist Amir Anvarzadeh has a different take.

There's also some uncertainty as to whether a collaboration of two of the largest tech companies in the industry will prompt push-back from anti-trust regulators, who are in place to supervise fair trade in an open market, according to AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc.
