The US has called on its allies to maintain economic pressure on North Korea until it takes material steps toward relinquishing its nuclear weapons.
Responding to requests to comment on the matter, an official at the US State Department said worldwide sanctions will "remain in place (and) are to be enforced by all United Nations members", according to Yonhap News Agency and Voice of America.
North Korea's state media said last week that the country was suffering its worst drought in more than a century amid reported food shortages.
At least 216 Chinese companies were participating. In response to media inquiries regarding Kim's argument, the U.S. State Department reaffirmed that the sanctions against North Korea will remain thoroughly in place by the UN Security Council members.
