Passenger comfort and entertainment are a given with any contemporary Mercedes SUV and new GLS offers individual USB charging ports and hearted seats for all its occupants, even those way in the back. All that extra space means room for up to seven, with the option of a six-seat layout when equipped with the second-row captain's chairs, and a massive panoramic roof with a 50-percent larger viewing area. 63 S cars now also get AMG Driver's Package as standard - removing the car's 155mph top speed limiter. The instrument cluster still flashes red when it's time to shift up, too, which is a feature that we liked in the pre-facelift vehicle. Coupled to this is the gratuitous Carwash function which moves the suspension to its highest system, reducing tack width, fold the exterior mirrors, supresses various sensors and closes the side windows and sunroof.
In terms of size the new GLS is 77mm longer and 22mm wider than its predecessor. Powered by a 4-litre bi-turbocharged V8, which also features mild-hybridization thanks to an energy harvesting integrated starter motor, the GLS580 boosts 360kW and 700Nm. As a result, the GLC 63 Coupe has 469 hp (350 kW / 476 PS) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque and can run from 0-62 miles per hour (0-100 km/h) in 4.0 seconds. The engine already complies with the Euro 6d- standard, which does not come into force until 1 January 2020.
That MBUX system sits pride of place in both the front and second row. For 2020, the 450 stretches out to 205.0 inches, while the 580 extends to 205.2 inches. From here, the user gets maximum control of the rear seat entertainment, radio, TV, media and web browsing. All the digital screens are synced with the MBUX system.
The new GLS is said to be considerably more spacious than its predecessor, which saw close to 800 units sold in the United Kingdom previous year, making up around one percent of Mercedes' total sales.
