And key to that effort will be offshore wind.
The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy said the Offshore Wind Sector Deal included a £250m offshore wind growth partnership, meant to ensure companies working in relevant coastal regions "continue to be competitive and are leaders internationally in the next generation of offshore wind innovations".
As part of the country's modern Industrial Strategy, Britain aims to become a global leader in renewable sectors with more investment potential than any other country in the world.
The government will throw its weight behind an expansion in the use of offshore wind power in the hope the renewable energy source will provide a third of the UK's electricity by 2030.
The offshore wind industry is to invest £250 million (€291 million) in the United Kingdom supply chain, the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) said March 7.
Essentially a contract between the sector and governments encompassing commitments (by the industry to invest £250m in the Offshore Wind Growth Partnership and by the Government to fulfil its already promised but gradual clean power auctions feeding £557m over a 10 year period) and ambitious targets (30GW offshore wind built by 2030 representing 30% of British electricity generation) but predicated upon lowering costs to the consumer.
Rebecca Long Bailey MP, Labour's Shadow Business, Environment and Energy Secretary, said: "As green groups slam the deal as woeful, industry groups say they could deliver so much more and trade unions express concern over UK-based jobs and working conditions, there is one question for the government: why is its response so lacklustre when faced with the greatest challenge faced by any generation?" Companies are burgeoning in clusters, creating new centres of excellence in this clean growth boom.
