He was helped up after going down at Clemson on Saturday and taken off the court, escorted by team personnel.
North Carolina announced the 68-year-old Williams experienced a bout of vertigo, an issue he has dealt with in the past.
"I don't know how Coach does it", the guard said.
North Carolina officials said at the start of the second half that Williams was feeling better, but he did not return to the game - an 81-79 UNC win.
Williams went to one knee with 55 seconds remaining, and with UNC up 35-33.

With UNC holding possession and a seven-point lead, things got a little too tight. Howell was a recruiting coup for the Tar Heels as he chose UNC over Florida State in the early signing period. He sustained an episode of vertigo a minute before halftime, falling in front of his team's bench and getting led into the locker room. Kenny Williams scored all nine of his points in the final 8:12 and made 3 of 4 free throws in the final 12 seconds. "He's been like a brother to me, like a best friend ... couldn't be more proud".
"If we had lost, I would have gone out there with them", he added. He said he felt like he could have returned to the North Carolina bench at the end of the game, according to AP, but the Tar Heels were winning. "And I didn't want to jinx it".
Despite playing without senior forward David Skara, its top defensive player who missed the game with an upper-body injury, Clemson kept the game close throughout. After that incident, which occurred when North Carolina faced Boston College, Williams said he had suffered from vertigo attacks for several years, but that marked the first time he'd suffered one during a game. He had 34 points with six 3s in beating Syracuse last time out.
North Carolina improves to 24-5 overall and 14-2 in the ACC. Clemson falls to 17-12 overall and 7-9 in league play. Clemson grabbed a 25-19 lead with just over 10 minutes left and seemed like they were poised for an upset.
