Venezuela is in the midst of a power struggle following the National Assembly's declaration that Maduro is an usurper, and several countries - including the US - now recognize opposition leader Juan Guaido as the nation's legitimate president.
Representatives of the European Union and a group of Latin American governments met in Montevideo, Uruguay, on Thursday to discuss the crisis.
'The revolution is more alive than ever, ' Maduro said.
"This gives me such hope, especially for the family that I left behind, my children, my wife", said Israel Escobar, 42, a Venezuelan who came to Cucuta a year ago to sell ice-cream on the streets.
"The legitimate government of President Guaido has offered amnesty, and a place for the military forces, most of which we think would be loyal to the Constitution, not to a dictator, a place to go", Faller said.
However military intervention opponents point out the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela does not pose a direct security threat to the United States.
Ramirez believes that Maduro betrayed the legacy of Chavez, but is refusing to support Guaido because he is backed by the United States and the "extreme right-wing" in Venezuela.

"The time for dialogue with Maduro has long passed".
Guaido says the May 2018 vote in which Maduro won a second term as president was a sham and on January 23 invoked a constitutional provision to declare himself president, promising free and fair elections.
Critics have said three previous dialogue processes have allowed the ruling Socialist Party to stall for time without making major concessions on key issues including imprisoned opposition politicians and electoral transparency.
The U.S. government is also weighing possible sanctions on Cuban military and intelligence officials whom it says are helping Maduro remain in power, a second U.S. official and person familiar with the deliberations have told Reuters.
