Parsons played in the first three games of the season, but has not seen action since October 22, when he played just six minutes and did not score against the Utah Jazz. He has since played in four games for the Pelicans after trade talks with the Los Angeles Lakers went nowhere.
Interim general manager Danny Ferry announced on Thursday that Davis will play out the remainder of the season, but with a reduction of playing time. An NBA spokesperson told Stein earlier in February that the NBA had not threatened the Pelicans with fines, but "league rules governing competitive integrity" required the Pelicans to play him. "As we've done previously, we'll continue to follow their lead".
However, while the Celtics are reportedly undeterred in their quest to land Davis, a recent report by Sham Charania of Stadium suggests that Davis isn't backing down from his assertion that he would only be a rental for the Celtics and would leave the team as soon as he is a free agent in 2020 if he is traded there.

Ferry, who replaced fired executive Dell Demps during the mid-season break, said the Pelicans want to give more playing time to their younger players in the second half of the season. The Pelicans clearly weren't thrilled with the timing of Davis' trade demand and wanted to strike back at the perception that stars are moving to big markets.
Davis, who was diagnosed with a contusion, suited up for the All-Star game on Sunday and scored five points in five minutes.
The choice to take Davis off the floor more often is clearly created to prioritize the future, though, and that means the Pelicans could lean on young players that are under contract beyond 2018-19.
In December, James said he would like to have Davis as a teammate.
