Nolan Arenado is staying put.
According to Passan, the deal includes an opt-out after three years - which would allow Arenado to hit free agency at age 30 should he choose that path - and will include a full no-trade clause.
He agreed in January to a one-year, $26 million contract with the Rockies. The deal's $32.5 million average annual value is second behind the $34.42 million for pitcher Zack Greinke in a $206.5 million contract with Arizona that began in 2016. He's also finished 8th, 5th, 4th, and 3rd in MVP voting the last four seasons, averaging 158 games played, 40 home runs, 126 RBIs, 40 doubles, and a.297/.358/.573 slash line during that span.

"It's such a great place", Arenado told USA Today.
Nolan Arenado will be roaming third base at Coors Field for years to come. But in terms of annual rate, the new contract already tops Machado's annual salary and could potentially be higher than the AAV to which Harper will eventually agree.
Arenado says the cold free-agent market the past two seasons wasn't a big factor but "obviously it's in your head".
The Rockies have not yet made the deal official. He must decide after the 2021 season whether to opt in for the remainder of the contract. Should his future outlook stall for any reason, the Rox have plenty of other infield talent on the rise, most notably including Ryan McMahon and Garrett Hampson.
