If the victor of the October 23 $1.5 billion Mega Millions jackpot doesn't step forward in the next few months, every state that participated could get a piece of the pie. Each state can use its unclaimed lottery prizes differently, according to the Mega Millions website.
In late October, the winning ticket was purchased at KC Mart #7 in Simpsonville, South Carolina, making it the state's first Mega Millions jackpot win, according to lottery officials.
The owner of the convenience store CJ Patel said last month that he had no idea who bought the winning ticket. He estimated between 10 to 15 visitors a day.
Although lottery officials urge winners to put the ticket in a safe place and consult legal and financial advice, it's been three weeks since the numbers were drawn.

One Twitter user had a suggestion about what to do with the money in the event the victor never steps forward: "Why doesn't the gov't just pick 25k lotto winners 1.5B/26K=$60K each and save itself the hassle?"
After the monumental win, the lottery urged the potential victor to sign the ticket, drop it in a safe and get financial advice from a planner or lawyer.
