"Super excited to announce that, thanks to the changing landscape, we are able to put Wonder Woman back to its rightful home".
Wonder Woman broke records as the highest-earning film of all time helmed by a female director, Patty Jenkins.
Wonder Woman herself Gal Gadot tweeted out the news earlier today. They'll battle on the big screen in the superhero sequel, but Wonder Woman 1984 will be up against some in-studio competition with Warner Bros.' own project The Six Billion Dollar Man, starring Mark Wahlberg. Birds of Prey, headlined by Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, follows in February 2020 ahead of Wonder Woman's new summer release.
The sequel, which is due to finish filming in December following a six-month shoot, would have been released a month after the Joker which is scheduled to open on October 4, 2019.
"We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did", Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution, Jeff Goldstein, said in a statement.

WW84 is the eight film in the DC Universe and the fourth featuring Gadot as Wonder Woman. Currently, there are no other major releases set to open that Friday, so it should be WB's weekend to win.
The sequel reunites Gadot with co-star Chris Pine.
Furthermore, Warner Brothers had already pushed the release date by a year, moving it from the 31st of May, 2019, until the 5th of June, 2020. In the meantime, feel free to make dumb jokes about where Wonder Woman 2 to 1983 went, or that it should be called "Wonder Woman 2020" now or some corny shit like that.
