Senate Republicans vowed Thursday to press forward with a vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh if the woman who has accused him of sexual assault declines to testify at a hearing planned for Monday.
The already-contentious confirmation hearings for Brett Kavanaugh took an explosive new turn Sunday after a professor of psychology at Palo Alto University told The Washington Post that the judge, President Donald Trump's choice to fill a vacancy in the UA Supreme Court, had assaulted her sexually on one occasion over 35 years ago, when both Kavanaugh and she were teenagers. On Tuesday, Sen. Lindsey Graham said the Democrats' handling of the Ford accusations has been "a drive-by shooting when it comes to Kavanaugh".
Testifying Monday, however, "is not possible and the Committee's insistence that it occur then is arbitrary in any event", Ford's lawyers wrote.
Carlson said he was told by a senior USA official that the FBI will not investigate because what Ford is alleging is not a federal crime. Ford's initial letter to California Democratic Rep. Anna Eshoo requested she remain anonymous. Dianne Feinstein stating that he believed Ford should have the opportunity to testify in a hearing. She told WVOM Radio in ME it would "not be fair to Judge Kavanaugh", if Ford does not come forward and testify.
Hirono of Hawaii and Gillibrand of NY joined other Democrats and Ford's legal team in calling for an FBI investigation into the matter. But Ford said through her lawyers that she did not want to testify before the FBI investigates her allegation.
Suge Knight sentenced to 28 years for 2015 fatal hit-and-run
Knight had been facing the possibility of life in prison, and his trial was scheduled to begin Monday with jury selection. The reason why his prison sentence is so high is that he was previously convicted for a felony in 1997.

Tennessee Senate candidate says Kavanaugh accuser 'credible'
Trump Jr. described his artwork on Instagram with the caption: 'Judge Kavanaugh's sexual assault letter found by Dems'. The party controls the Senate 51-49 and the Judiciary panel by 11-10, so it can not afford GOP "no" votes.
"They are totally intent on getting Judge Kavanaugh onto the Supreme Court, come hell or high water", said Democratic Senator Mazie Hirono, who touted a letter of support for Ford signed by more than 1,000 women who graduated from the Maryland school Ford attended in the 1980s.
They want her allegations to be investigated by the USA government before she appears for a hearing in Congress.
Flake said this despite a previous statement that he would vote "no" if Ford didn't get a chance to testify first. "If it's legitimate, she has a legitimate complaint", Cordes said, her voice softening. Dr. Ford has asked me to let you know that she appreciates the various options you have suggested.
The professional tone of the correspondence is markedly different from the heated rhetoric being employed by members of both parties on the Judiciary Committee, who have accused one another of mishandling Ford's allegations.
Kavanaugh has had a relatively smooth confirmation track until the allegations against him were reported last week.
Fellow Republican Susan Collins of ME said she hoped Prof Ford would "reconsider and testify" on Monday. Although they have yet to hire someone to fill the role, the Republicans have been eager to avoid the image of 11 male senators questioning Ford about her account.
