Heather Nauert, spokesperson for the Department of State, said in a congratulatory message to the AIT that through the AIT, the US and Taiwan share values and enjoy close cooperation on a wide range of regional and global issues.
The American Institute in Taiwan, as the de facto U.S. embassy in Taipei is called, was officially declared open Tuesday morning, in a ceremony attended by senior USA diplomats and Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen.
The new AIT offices are being unveiled amid heightened concerns in Beijing over increasing United States involvement in Taiwan.
Taiwanese politicians, however, hope that more senior US officials such as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo or national security adviser John Bolton may visit the island this autumn.
"We have faced many trials along this journey, but we have risen to the challenge at every turn, knowing that our shared commitment to democracy would see us through", said Royce, the highest-ranking State Department official to visit Taiwan since 2015.
"The opening tomorrow of the new AIT headquarters shows how important our relationship is to the United States", the Republican lawmaker from MS said. AIT's Taipei office has nearly 500 American and local employees, while its Kaohsiung branch has more than 30 staff.
Royce is the wife of pro-Taiwan congressman and House foreign affairs committee chairman Ed Royce.

Senior backbencher Jacob Rees-Mogg said he expected there would be enough unity in Conservative ranks to see the Bill through. In a rare alliance, senior Tory Remain and Leave MPs have urged party rebels to back Prime Minister Theresa May on the bill.
Trump predicts 'terrific relationship' with Kim Jong Un as historic summit begins
Last week, Trump told reporters that it would be easy to tell if a deal was possible with Kim in the first minute of the meeting. But on Monday evening, the White House announced Trump would depart for Washington by 8 p.m.
White House says Trump plans early summit departure
U.S. and North Korean officials are set to meet Monday morning in Singapore to make final preparations for Tuesday's meeting. Trump previously said he would be able to tell in one minute if Kim was honest about giving up his nuclear weapons.
A smiling Tsai said the new building was a symbol of "more promising" relations between Washington and Taipei.
The new AIT compound was constructed over nine years and has cost the USA some $250 million. Beijing suspects Tsai wants to push for formal independence, which would cross a red line for Communist Party leaders in Beijing.
"The mainland must continue to build up its deterrence against Taiwanese authorities, making them know that the US can not be their savior", it said in an editorial on the opening of the new office.
Earlier speculation suggested that President Donald Trump's national security advisor John Bolton could visit Taiwan for the unveiling of the new AIT complex, a move that will certainly provoke Beijing, which opposes interactions of high-level officials between the US and Taiwan.
On Monday night, China's state-run tabloid Global Times published an editorial, suggesting Beijing should warn the U.S. and Taiwan of possible consequences for any provocative move.
China has also stepped up military exercises and air patrols close to Taiwan.
