Mustapha Heron Reportedly Withdraws from NBA Draft, Will Transfer from Auburn

The NCAA ruled in January that the 6-foot-11, 260-pound center will be eligible at the start of the 2018-19 season after missing all of previous year.

Heron's starting small forward slot will likely be filled by Danjel Purifoy, who was ruled eligible for next season, granted he serves a 30 percent suspension that should equate to nine games. On April 4, Auburn guard Mustapha Heron announced he was entering the 2018 NBA Draft and meant to sign an agent. According to a report from The New York Times' Adam Zagoria, who reported weeks ago that Heron was "50-50" on his return to The Plains, the Waterbury, Connecticut, athlete will withdraw from the draft pool and transfer.

The team that lands Heron will get a player who was second-team All-SEC last season, an SEC All-Freshman team member in 2016-17 and a 5-star recruit entering college, according to 247Sports. "He has a chance to be one of the most dominant big men in college basketball this season". All of his dreams for greatness at Auburn and beyond are still alive and well. His pre-draft process did not include an invitation to the 2018 NBA Draft Combine and it featured workouts with only four teams.

Heron was Auburn's leading scorer last season as a sophomore with 16.4 points per game to go along with 5.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals. "The last month he's been here and he wants to be close to his mom, where she can see him play".
