A lawyer for adult-film star Stormy Daniels has claimed that the money was routed by Vekselberg and Intrater to a Cohen shell company.
Columbus Nova has said Vekselberg was not involved in the money transfer.
Intrater said Vekselberg had not originally meant to meet with Cohen at Trump Tower, adding that if he had known Cohen would later be the focus of several federal criminal inquiries, he would not have hired Cohen or introduced him to Vekselberg. It has stated it's a "management company exclusively owned and controlled by Americans", and that it hired Cohen after Trump's inauguration.
Among the topics the three men discussed was Vekselberg's desire for better relations between the United States and Russian Federation, the person said, who added that Vekselberg did not encounter Trump or any of his other advisers.
Separately, Cohen is under investigation by federal prosecutors in NY scrutinizing his business practices and his efforts to squash negative stories about Trump.
The January 2017 meeting joins a list of notable meetings at Trump Tower between members of Trump's inner circle and Russian officials, including the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr., Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner and a Russian lawyer.

National Hockey League releases 2018 Stanley Cup Final schedule
The key cog in Vegas' engine has been Fleury, whose remarkable play has translated into a career-best postseason. Vegas will open the best-of-seven Stanley Cup Final against the Eastern Conference champion on Monday, May 28.
Intrater and Cohen first met by happenstance, according to a person familiar with their relationship.
They sat together at one of the dinners on Inauguration Day and Intrater's $250,000 donation to the inaugural committee got him two tickets to the swearing-in ceremony, which he and Vekselberg attended. During the campaign, Trump frequently said that he hoped to rebuild ties between the United States and Russian Federation, even as the US government concluded that Russian Federation had orchestrated cyberhacks of Democrats. Mueller's team asked Vekselberg about Intrater's payments tied to the inauguration, which was how he was able to attend.
Investigators for special counsel Robert S. Mueller III have sought information about the three men's activities as part of their investigation into Russian interference.
Cohen was reportedly hired to bring in investors - in other words use his rolodex to bring in cash from wealthy clients to the investment firm. But it soon emerged that Trump had reimbursed Cohen for the payment.
AT&T and Novartis have since called their independent decisions to hire Cohen a "mistake".
