That is similar to some of the 79 moons orbiting Jupiter.
It's always special when astronomers spot new moons, but this latest discovery is extreme - 20 new moons confirmed all at once, as announced earlier today by the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center. Its Ganymede moon is about half the size of the Earth. He added that the newly discovered moons are only about 5 km in diameter.
"Using some of the largest telescopes in the world, we are now completing the inventory of small moons around the giant planets", said Sheppard. Future greater telescopes shall be wanted to acknowledge something else smaller.
Jupiter may be the king of the planets, but - right now, at least - Saturn is the king of moons.
Twenty new moons have been found around Saturn, giving the ringed planet a total of 82. These baby moons may have come from larger parent moons that broke apart right after Saturn formed.

Spreading wildfire prompts evacuations in Southern California
The massive fire burning in Granada Hills, Porter Ranch and Sylmar has prompted several freeway closures in the area this morning. Mandatory evacuations were also ordered for Oakridge Estates. "It started just eating up vegetation as fast as the eye can see".

South Africa ex-president Zuma to face corruption trial
The case has been much delayed - the charges were first brought against Zuma in 2005. Political analyst Xolani Dube warned that Zuma could lodge an "urgent" appeal.
Gallic mythology: "One in every of the newly stumbled on moons orbits within the prograde route and has an inclination strategy 36 degrees, which is equivalent to those within the Gallic group, regardless that it is worthy farther away from Saturn than some other prograde moons".
"These moons are the pieces of the objects that supported to form the planets, so by studying them, we're learning about what the planets formed from", Sheppard wrote. Now the planet most surrounded by the solar system.
Seventeen of the moons will have Norse names, two will have Inuit names and one will have a Gallic name, according to the contest page.
"So seeing that Saturn has extra moons even supposing it is extra hard to search out them, reveals correct what number of moons Saturn has peaceable over time", he wrote in an electronic mail.
The majority of the moons take over three years to complete an orbit around the gas giant, while two of the prograde moons, which are located closer to the planet, circle around it in just about two years.
Researchers are constantly making new discoveries in a universe full of endless mysteries. The Carnegie Institution had a moon-naming contest for them; another is planned now for Saturn's new moons. The other three moons orbit in the prograde-the same direction as Saturn rotates. Such groups of outer moons also appear around Jupiter, says Sheppard. All name submissions for this group must be giants from Inuit mythology. They're closer to the planet than some of the other newly discovered moons.
You have until December 6, 2019, to tweet your suggested moon name to @SaturnLunacy with the hashtag #NameSaturnsMoons. The mechanics are simple: the names must be from the giants from Norse, Gallic, and Inuit mythology.
