At approx 4:30am we received an alert that the haul rope for Sea to Sky Gondola had fallen and the lift inoperable.
"I just can't even believe someone would do this".
The gondola, located about 60 kilometres north of Vancouver, has been closed indefinitely.
"We don't know how long it's going to take us to figure out the cause", Bailey told CTV News.
RCMP say they're still assessing the damage, but early signs point to the Sea to Sky Gondola cable being cut.
Gondola spokesman Ken Bailey said the company will do what it can to help police in their probe.
Technical Safety B.C., which oversees the safety of passenger ropeways such as gondolas and chairlifts, is also investigating the incident.
"The entire Sea to Sky Gondola has been affected", Triance said.
'No guests or staff were on the gondola and no injuries were sustained in the incident.

The RCMP said that they are looking to speak with hikers, climbers and campers who were in the areas of the Sea to Sky Gondola as well as the Stawamus Chief Provincial Park between 4:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
