Domingo was named Chairman of IFPI in July 2011, when it was announced that he would "play a leading role promoting IFPI's priorities internationally".

Two music companies on Tuesday cancelled appearances by legendary tenor Placido Domingo over accusations that he sexually harassed multiple women - but the Metropolitan Opera said it would be awaiting the results of an investigation before making any calls.
The Los Angeles Opera, where Domingo has served as general director since 2003, said Tuesday in response to the allegations that it would "engage outside counsel to investigate the concerning allegations about Placido Domingo".
Some said they felt their careers had been damaged by rejecting his advances. The AP report does not say whether any of the women reported their allegations to their employers or authorities.

Domingo has already experienced the first fallout from the published allegations.
Following the allegations, the Philadelphia Orchestra Association withdrew its invitation for Domingo to appear in its opening night concert on September 18. The Associated Press said it also had spoken to nearly three dozen other musicians, voice teachers and backstage staff who said they had witnessed what the report described as "sexually tinged" behavior by Domingo dating back three decades in various cities. Women were warned not to be alone in an elevator with him.

One of the anonymous women told the AP that in the late 1990s, Domingo pressured her into going to his apartment near the LA Opera's home at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion; she was 27 and married.
The woman said that over the next three years, he became "uncomfortably affectionate", and would touch her waist, kiss her cheek close to her mouth, and enter her dressing room uninvited.
"Every time I would walk offstage, he would be in the wings waiting for me", she told the AP. "How do you say no to God?"
"Still, it is painful to hear that I may have upset anyone or made them feel uncomfortable - no matter how long ago and despite my best intentions", he added.
He added: "I believed that all of my interactions and relationships were always welcomed and consensual".

In the spirit of the Me Too era many praised the move by saying it was "high time" he was held accountable and calling the accusations in the report "strong".
One of the women said she had sex with him twice, including at the Biltmore hotel in Los Angeles. "That's how everybody dealt with Placido", she said.
